RE: Electric Awning

Mine didn't roll up well right from the very start. The dealer installed it and tapped into a lamp by the door for power. Bad place to get power.
I redid the wiring and also lubricated all the moving parts. The awning works correctly now.

RE: Free camping

We went to one at Bass Lake, California, and the guy was really nice. Showed us all the stuff and explained the program quite well. We found it interesting and there was no high pressure.
But I have also been to some in the past(25 years ago)that were awful with the high pressure.
So it will vary.

RE: Nitrogen Filled Tires

Several people on this post said their tires run cooler with the nitrogen. I'm curious how they know that bit of information.
I check the temp of my tires with an IR gun every time I stop. Seldom do any two tires match in temp, let alone all six. There is always a variance of one to three degrees based on wind, sun and tire pressure. Even the duals right next to each other will vary because of the direction of the exhaust heat in certain wind conditions.
Has anybody done any scientific measuring of temperature under a given set of conditions while using nitrogen? If the temps were lower, what were they lower than?
I've gone across the desert at 115 degrees and I suspect your tires will be very hot even with 20% more nitrogen in them. But I can't prove that.
I don't use nitrogen and have gone as long as two years with little to no air loss in my tires.
Air pressure will vary with temperature and altitude so when you say you have air loss is it based on being measured at the same altitude and temperature?
I did a pressure chart with temps and altitude on a trip 1500 mile trip. Interesting results.

RE: How to break-in and hotwire a motorhome...

My spare key is duck taped to a frame member.
The magnetic thingies fall off and they also rust.
I like SunflyerA's comment:
============================================================================
Of course, not only would I have to remember where the key was; I would have to remember the combination too....That's an awful lot for a guy who can't remember the keys in the first place.

You will probably meet your neighbors down here.
Doesn't anyone stay in Canada for the winter?
Turn out the lights when you leave.

RE: Wintering

I had a travel trailer stored for several months all sealed up. Should have had a vent and window open because there was mold all over when we opened it up.
I always leave my roof vents open all the time now. They have the Max air vent covers. I also leave the window over the sink cracked just enought to let air in.

RE: Warning, be wary of the flu shot.

Many years ago I had Guillain-Barré syndrome. Total loss of muscles in arms and legs that set in over a period of two days.
Every doctor I've talked to since then, when I told them I had Guillain-Barré syndrome, asked me if I had had the swine flu shot that was given out way back when.
I did not have the shot back then but the fact that more than five doctors have asked me the same question I decided that I'll take my chances with the flu.

RE: Levels on Gauges Still Reading 1/2 Full

I fill my black/grey tanks with water and Dawn, Fabric softner or dish washer soap. I then let it sit for a couple days and then drain it.
It clears up the sensors for a while but then it's back to the same old problem.
I pretty much just look down inside the toilet to see what the level is.
After all, what do you expect for $125,000? Something that works?

RE: sanitizing the fresh water tank and lines

I put a whole gallon of bleach in my fresh water tank on a trailer I used to own.
Never did get the bleach smell out of the water system. I'll bet it still smells to this day.
I wouldn't use more than a cup of bleach for your tank.

RE: Newbie question....covering tires with what?

I use the Adco covers.
Got tired of the neighbors animals spraying my wheels and also any water splashing dirt up on the tires and wheels.

RE: Allison 1000 problems!

I've gone down hundreds of grades with the gear lever pulled down into second. 1st gear one time, veryyyyy steep grade.
I always use my lower gears going down mountains. That is not a problem.
As far as coolant amounts.... The less antifreeze the better the heat loss. So not using any antfreeze would produce the coolest running possible. So that's not the problem.
I changed my fluid and spin on filter at about 25,000. I also changed just the spin on at 5,000. I used the regular Dexron fluid for the change.
I would more suspect the failure to change your transmission fluid as being the culprit. However I don't earn my living repairing transmissions.
What is the warranty on the new transmission?

RE: Work Horse Chassis...real world experiance Question.

Check my signature.
I've been around the entire country twice in mine. 45,000 miles so far.
If my coach were to be destroyed I would go buy the same make, model and year again.
I've had problems with the instrument display and rear wheel bearings.
The brakes have gotten me over many mountains and several panic stops.
Over all it handles quite well and I'm a happy camper.

RE: 2010 workhorse chasis

Did you drive it before you bought it?
If so, did you notice any difference?
Mine handles quite well in all conditions.
I'd be interested to hear your comparison report after you've driven a few hundred miles.
You will make a report, Right??????

RE: Battery Disconnect

My coach has two disconnect switchs. The engine switch is in the front storage bin and I'll disconnect my engine battery if stored for a month or so. The steps will NOT work then as they draw their power from the engine battery. I leave the steps extended.
The disconnect for the two house batteries is located in a rear storage compartment. Turning that switch off prevents them from being charged.
The only real way to find the answer to your question to to put a voltmeter on the coach battery and see what is actually happening under various condtions.

RE: Independence RV Again

I've been beatup on here occasionally. If a person is on here long enough they will eventually get some negative comments.
Just ignore the negative people. They come and go on this forum.
I always wonder what would happen if we were all sitting around a campfire and some of the negative people made their nasty comments. I suspect there would be a little more fuel in the fire.

RE: Trip to the Black Hills

Does the name Senator Daschle ring a bell. I marvelled at how good the roads were in South Dakota the first of many times we have been there.
He was that states senator for many years and I believe he made sure they recieved a fair amount of money for their roads.
Roads bring tourists, which brings revenue.
The roads are great in that state.
If you go to Mt Rushmore eat in the cafeteria. The stew is GREAT and the view is spectacular. Very good ice cream bar in there also.
The lighted night show is worth seeing.

RE: Shared ownership

My biggest fear would be an accident.
Assume your friends were driving and killed a family of six and it was your friends' fault.
You would be sued so fast your head would spin.
That is the major reason I wouldn't do it.
It's risky enough with just you driving it.
